Seven former Southern Water employees, including former CEO Matthew Wright,
face criminal charges of conspiracy to defraud the Environment Agency and Ofwat
The Allegations: Prosecutors claim the individuals manipulated wastewater compliance tests between January 2012 and December 2017
by creating artificial "no-flow events" to evade regulatory checks and potential fines exceeding £45 million.

The Accused Individuals:

• Matthew Wright (Former CEO, age 60)
• Philip Barker (age 57)
• Clive Massey (age 64)
• Mark Butler (age 45)
• David James (age 58)
• Terry Stephens (age 67)

Legal Status: The defendants deny wrongdoing, were granted unconditional bail, and the case has moved to the Crown Court.
Southern Water also faces separate environmental permit compliance charges.

Southern Water - Not Fit For Purpose
